Hysteria Asteria

Born in Nicosia, Cyprus in 1978, with a vibrant creative side to herself, Alexia has been involved with art in all its forms since she can remember. It was through high school that she first started building on her creative skills.

After completing her Undergraduate studies in Communications & Society at the University of Leicester (UK), she carried on in Boston (USA) where she obtained a Masters of Arts degree in Integrated Marketing Communications. At the same time, she started making garments and accessories jeans, shoes, hats by hand, and selling it to friends and classmates with great success.

That’s when it all started….

Consequently, after completing a series of beachwear collections, followed by more inclusive mini collections that were sold in a number of boutiques in Cyprus, Alexia took her work to another dimension. She attended a one-year intensive program in Fashion & Textile design, offered by Instituto Europeo di Design in Milan (Italy).

After completing the education in Italy, Alexia returned to Cyprus, where she hit the ground running with her new and fresh brand, under the name HYSTERIA ASTERIA, with collections directed to small designer boutiques and concept stores. Along with that, she offers private design propositions, in order to fulfill the needs of clients’ personal request, as well as mini collections consisting of one of a kind, unique pieces.

Moreover, her work is expanding with the launch of a new project, IM.ME - a fresh line of swimwear, beachwear and easy ready-to-wear, a collaboration made with the designers of the AKIRA MUSHI brand. The first collection showcased for Spring/Summer 2011.

A citizen of Athens these days, Alexia has opened another showroom in Greece, under the same roof with AKIRA MUSHI and IM.ME, located in the cult area of Psyrri, Athens. A designer who does what she was meant to do. It all comes natural and indeed very personal.

H Άννα Γερμανού είναι γραφίστρια και σχεδιάστρια με έδρα την Θεσσαλονίκη. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε αρκετές διοργανώσεις όπως το Fashion Room Service North, Pillbox, Meet Market, κλπ

Ξεκίνησε τις σπουδές στην Πληροφορική, όμως γρήγορα το πάθος της για τις τέχνες και σχεδιασμό την οδήγησε προς αυτή την κατεύθυνση. Έτσι, σπούδασε γραφιστική και ενώ ταυτόχρονα παρακολούθησε μια σειρά μαθημάτων πάνω στον σχεδιασμό και την κατασκευή κοσμημάτων.

Το 2010 παρουσιάζει, με το όνομα SPANAKI, το REUSE project που βασίζεται στην ιδέα της επαναχρησιμοποίησης παλιών αντικειμένων. Ασχολείται με την κατασκευή προϊόντων φιλικών προς το περιβάλλον, με διάρκεια στον χρόνο. «Πρόθεσή μου είναι να επεκτείνω τον κύκλο ζωής του προϊόντος. Μετατρέποντας το σε κάτι νέο κατά κάποιο τρόπο καθυστερώ το να γίνει επιζήμιο για το περιβάλλον» έχει πει η ίδια. Η έμπνευση έρχεται από παλιές φωτογραφίες, την τυπογραφία, εικονογραφήσεις, περιοδικά και γενικά από καθημερινά αντικείμενα.

Χρώματα και υφές, κόσμοι τ’ ονείρου, του παραμυθιού και της φύσης ζωντανεύουν, καθώς μπλέκονται το στημόνι και το υφάδι του αργαλειού. Πρωτόγνωρες μνήμες, χαμένες στα βάθη των αιώνων, ξυπνούν να συναντήσουν το σήμερα, να το ζεστάνουν και να το ομορφύνουν.

Lana Sevas

This conceptual fashion label aims to design refined garment pieces and contemporary bridal gowns for women with strong personal style that do not rely on passing trends but use them wisely to enrich their own style signature. Each garment piece is a piece of art with a life of its own. Architecture, lifetime stories, memories, past eras are some of the subjects that provide inspiration for each season’s collection.

Born in 1983, in Nicosia, Cyprus the label’s head designer, graduated from the University of Brighton, UK in 2007, achieving a BA in Fashion Design with Business Studies with First Class Honours. During her studies, she managed to be offered a placement in Hussein Chalayan studio, one of the leading conceptual British Designers of his era, as a Womenswear Design Assistant for the Autumn/Winter 2006 collection. The placement offered her a direct experience of how a collection is produced from start to finish as well as the opportunity to work alongside Hussein Chalayan himself and well known stylist Jane How. Her Final Degree Show Collection was one of the ones chosen for the University of Brighton’s Graduate Fashion Show in the Ministry of Sound in London. On finishing her studies, she worked as an Assistant designer / pattern cutter of one of the most well known and accredited designers in Cyprus for two years. In December 2009, a shared dream becomes the root for the launch of a capsule collection under the label LANA SEVAS CONCEPTUAL FASHION LABEL and the opening of its flagship showroom in the heart of Nicosia.

Ioli Michalopoulou

Ioli Michalopoulou was born in Athens, in 1985.
She graduated from the AKTO School of Fashion Design in 2004.

In recent years, Ioli’s costumes have played the leading part in short films that have traveled from Drama -Greece to Denmark, as well as in stage productions and bar theatre performances.

In 2006 Ioli graduated from Maria Chaniotaki’s Set Design Workshop. During the same year she held a personal exhibition at MONOHORO Gallery, entitled “And with a little retro glance…the gallery became tartan”.

At the event of Athens X-clusive Designers Week Ioli presented her Winter Collection in the Spring of 2007,
while in November she presented her Summer Collection.

In September 2007, she participated in Fashion Forward International Thessaloniki in the context of the 72nd Thessaloniki International Fair and in 2008 in the 73rd.

Jo Katsaras

JO KATSARAS

Jo was born in Cyprus in 1966 and has been living in South Africa since she was 5 years old. Having grown up as an immigrant in the vibrant 70’s lifestyle in Johannesburg has given her a rich cross-cultural influence to her work.

After completing her schooling at the Johannesburg National School of Arts, she seriously considered a career in architecture but decided to travel the world before furthering her studies. Taking her natural talent to the next level, she completed a three-year fashion diploma in only one year.

Returning from her travels, Jo entered the world of fashion working as a Senior Designer at a large clothing manufacturer. However, she soon discovered that her real area of interest lay in individual wardrobes. Designing unique clothes that define a character was far more challenging on a creative level than turning out mass garments.

Film was therefore a natural progression for Jo who found ultimate expression for her creativity through this medium.

She is renowned for her use of colour and texture in the costumes she designs. Her inherent understanding of the film medium led to a meteoric rise through the ranks and within eighteen months of entering the film industry, Jo tackled her first production as a head of department.

"To work on films was to enter a world of fantasy," says Katsaras. "You are given the opportunity to create fabulous costumes for unique characters. I love the idea that one can distil an entire character into their wardrobe and the results are preserved forever on celluloid."

Since designing her first feature, the South African blockbuster, "There’s a Zulu on My Stoep," Jo went on to design for a number of major commercials as well as television series and feature films. Her feature credits include Jean Jacques Annaud’s "Running Wild" for Sony Pictures, Village Roadshow’s "Tarzan and the Lost City" starring Casper van Dien and Jane March, the 2001 South African box office hit "Mr Bones" starring Leon Schuster, David Ramsey and Faizon Love, the Disney IMAX feature "The Young Black Stallion" starring Biana Tamimi and Richard Romanus, John Boorman’s "Country of My Skull" starring Samuel L. Jackson and Juliette Binoche , "Racing Stripes" starring Bruce Greenwood and Hayden Pannieterre.

In 2007 she worked with award winner director, Anthony Minghella on the HBO and BBC pilot of "The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency" starring Jill Scott, Anika Noni-Rose, Colin Salmon, David Oyelowa and Idris Alba . In 2008 she continued what she had created on the pilot show and designed 6 more episodes.

This blockbuster hit series has brought Jo worldwide recognition and she was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Costumes for a Series at the 61st Emmys.
She was also invited by The Costume Designer's Guild of America to exhibit those costumes in Los Angeles.

Upon Returning to Cyprus Jo was awarded “Woman of the Year” by the Madame Figaro Awards, and now travels back and forth continuing costume design for films and commercials as well as continuing designing and managing her brand ‘Jo Katsaras’ from her Atelier in Limassol.

BROKE QUEENS

Οι Brokequeens θα μπορούσαν να είναι ένα ροκ συγκρότημα, μια θεατρική ομάδα, μια εικαστική κολεκτίβα. Το πάθος τους για καλλιτεχνική έκφραση το αποτυπώνουν όμως πάνω σε ύφασμα, δημιουργώντας αυθεντικά χειροποίητα ρούχα που εντυπωσιάζουν με την ιδιαιτερότητά τους και ξαφνιάζουν με μικρές, παιχνιδιάρικες λεπτομέρειες.

Οι Brokequeens είναι το δημιουργικό alter ego των Ειρήνη Κυριακοπούλου και Ιωάννα Μανουσοπούλου, οι οποίες μετά την πολυετή προϋπηρεσία τους ως σχεδιάστριες στις σημαντικότερες ελληνικές εταιρίες μόδας, το καλοκαίρι του 2005 παρουσίασαν την πρώτη τους κοινή συλλογή.

Ασύμμετρα κοψίματα, περίτεχνα ξέφτια, ζωγραφική και κέντημα στο χέρι είναι μερικές απ’ τις τεχνικές που χαρακτηρίζουν την αισθητική τους.

Χωρίς να δεσμεύονται από τις εκάστοτε τάσεις της μόδας, το ύφος τους είναι ζωηρό, ατίθασο, δυναμικό, με στοιχεία ενίοτε θεατρικά, ενίοτε πανκ-ροκ, δοσμένα με μεράκι και χιούμορ.

Οι Brokequeens φτιάχνουν ρούχα για κορίτσια σαν κι αυτές τις ίδιες: για κορίτσια που θέλουν -και ξέρουν- να εκφράζουν τη διαφορετικότητά τους (και) μέσα απ’ το ντύσιμό τους.

I started my atelier, based in Nicosia, in 2002 mainly designing and tailoring garments made to measure and at the same time presenting small collections for each season. A few years later my designs were also displayed in a boutique in Nicosia.

In 2006, for further knowledge and experience I followed a course at Central Saint Martin’s college of Art and Design in London, for designing and professional approaches to patternmaking and later on, a course in patternmaking for men. For the last year I am designing and creating menswear and shortly planning to present a complete collection.

I presented for the first time a fashion street show in Nicosia in 2007, with 60 pieces of my collection for spring-summer 2008, followed by my participation in the first Cyprus Fashion week presenting for fall winter 2009.

Through the years I experimented with various techniques, which I greatly enjoyed exploring, such as patch-work and hand knitted garments, embroidered, machine-stitched and hand painted designs, hand bags, necklaces and belts.

I like draping, folding and pleating, creating more sculptural designs as well as mixing and matching fabrics.
The new and different excites me. So is my coming collection.

Exploring and discovering designs, shapes and cuts is my passion and leaves me knowing that creating is a miracle, there are no limits and there are infinite ways attempting to reach it. The outcome is a mystery….
